Abigail Johnson

Sheffield Theatres has unveiled the full cast for its eagerly awaited revival of Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire, running at the Crucible Theatre from March 1st to 29th 2025.

Directed by Josh Seymour (Spend, Spend, Spend), a winner of the Best Director award at the Off-West End Awards, this production promises to inject fresh, dynamic energy into this timeless masterpiece.

Taking on the iconic role of Blanche DuBois will be the exceptional Joanna Vanderham, known for her performances in Double Feature, Richard III and The Runaway for Sky. Vanderham’s remarkable versatility and depth will infuse this complex character with new life, ensuring her portrayal of Blanche will be compelling and tragic as ever.

Jake Dunn, who made a memorable impression as Thomas Blancheford in The Ballad of Renegade Nell on Disney+, will bring his raw intensity to the role of Stanley Kowalski, a character defined by aggression and brute force. Dunn’s ability to play morally complex figures will bring an undeniable magnetism and danger to Stanley.

Amara Okereke, a celebrated talent who won ‘Best Actress in a Musical’ at the 2018 Stage Debut Awards for her portrayal of Cosette in Les Misérables, brings her star quality into the role of ‘Stella for star’. Known for her versatility in roles such as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady and Laurie in Oklahoma!, Okereke will deliver a deeply empathetic and nuanced performance as Stella, a woman torn between love and loyalty.

Tayla Kovacevic-Ebong, whose credits include The Sandman Season 2 and The Regime on HBO, will bring vulnerability and depth to the role of Mitch. Known for his impressive range, Kovacevic-Ebong will offer an emotionally resonant interpretation of this gentle character.

The supporting cast includes Bridgette Amofah as Eunice, Lia Burge as the Neighbour, Flower Seller, and Nurse, Nuhazet Diaz Canoplay as Pablo, Jack Ofrecio as Allan, the Young Man, and the Doctor, and Dominic Rye as Steve. All talented cast members make their Sheffield Theatres debut, bringing the drama of 1940s New Orleans to the Steel City.

Set in the gritty, passionate world of Elysian Fields, A Streetcar Named Desire tells the story of Blanche DuBois, a fading Southern belle who seeks refuge with her sister, Stella, only to clash with Stanley, Stella’s primal husband. As Blanche’s illusions unravel and the tension between fantasy and reality intensifies, the play explores familial ties, desire, and the devastating consequences of suppressed truths in this unflinchingly powerful drama.
