Kelham’s new bakery - Forge Bakehouse opens up a new venue in Kelham Island

Sheffield’s popular bakery and café, Forge Bakehouse, have just opened up their fourth venue down at Kelham Island, and we just had to check it out.

Listed in Time Out’s top 20 best places to eat in Sheffield, Forge Bakehouse has only been expanding with the love of the people of Sheffield. Beginning as a humble bakery on Abbeydale Road in 2012, Forge now has four venues across Sheffield: Abbeydale, Beauchief, train station, and as of last month, Kelham Island.

As a Kelham resident, there was no way I wasn’t going to visit a new bakery opening down the road from me! The staff were super friendly and lovely, working quickly and making sure everything was perfect. Located at Wharncliffe Works on Green Lane, the bakery offers spaces to sit both inside and outside, so can brave all the British weather forecasts. It was a sunny day, so brilliant for sitting outside on their signature yellow tables to enjoy the baked goods and drinks.

There were so many homemade treats to choose from! From rolls and sandwiches to cakes and pastries - with plenty of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options - it was a tough choice. For our first lunch visit, we went for sausage rolls and sandwiches with mochas, all of which were delicious. Everything was freshly baked and made with lots of care and warmth, so the bakery fits perfectly within Kelham and its love for fresh and homemade treats.

Forge also prioritises sustainability! Yesterday’s bread is sold at half-price and is perfect for toasting. Anything that can’t be sold goes to pigs across the city, including at Heeley City Farm and Whirlow Hall, massively minimising waste.

Unlike some of the other sites, the Kelham venue is very dog friendly! It's the perfect spot if you want to go for a bite while out with your dog. You can even get your dog a puppacino so they’re not left out.

Forge Bakehouse Kelham is a wonderful addition to the Kelham Island neighbourhood, fitting in effortlessly with the other food and drink joints around the area. I'm already looking forward to going back to try all of the desserts, and inevitably becoming a regular.
