La Biblioteka Turns Over a New Page with a Brand New Relocation

Moving out from its kiosk inside Kommune, La Biblioteka is relocating to a new lot in Hideaway, Eyre Lane. This promises a new lease of life for one of Sheffield’s loveliest independent bookshops.

La Biblioteka first opened in 2006, taking shelter as a cosy kiosk in Kommune. Since it’s opening the hidden gem fast became a local favourite, gaining a huge reputation. Eventually their excellence was realised as they were awarded ‘Speciality Retailer of the Year’, and ‘Independent Retailer of the Year’ at the 2019 Sheffield Retail Awards.

This cultural hub has always had a strong sense of representation and inclusivity; providing an audience to those struggling to be heard. This has been shown time and time again by their platform for marginalised writers, as well as shining a light on current affairs and issues that matter.

We’re all too familiar that the high street is becoming a dying breed, and the current economic crisis is only providing more strain, with more and more big-name brands shutting down or falling into administration. Yet, somehow, like a beacon, we find these pockets of magic – pockets of independent shops. La Biblioteka is one of these magical shops, who are not only making it, but expanding.

Tomorrow, 17th February 2023, La Biblioteka will be opening their new headquarters in Hideaway, providing them with so much more scope to share fiction, essays, sport, fashion, politics. Hideaway is quickly becoming a Sheffield favourite, with the events and creative hub offering a home to independent retailers and food spots, as well as a weekly wine bar every Thursday and Friday … Plenty to do while finding your next literary obsession. Whether you’re new to the store, or going to see some friendly faces, check out their grand opening tomorrow 11am-6pm.
