Sheffield’s independent shop rolodex has just gotten bigger with the new permanent space for Novel inside Queen of the Suburbs specialty coffee shop. The perfect combination for coffee lovers and bibliophiles alike to support two independent businesses under one roof.
Kate and Joe started Novel purely out of their love of reading. Originally hailing from the Manchester area and now living in Walkley, the pair of maths teachers started their pop-up business venture in the summer of 2022. They first started travelling to local independent makers markets within Sheffield and surrounding areas with their curated selection of ‘contemporary, inspiring and thought-provoking’ books. Now, they have set up shop within the ‘pink fever dream’ in Queen of the Suburbs coffee shop in Crookes, which also opened in 2022.
The bookshop’s assortment of titles changes regularly, which provides a new shopping experience each time you visit. Novel’s goal is to showcase diverse authors and themes and support a variety of publishers. The shop also carries a collection of educational children’s books, planners and occasion cards that are sure to catch your eye as well.
Kate and Joe are amazingly friendly, approachable and both are a joy to discuss your current reads with. You can tell they are passionate about sharing their love of books with others. Stop by soon to get your new favourite read alongside a delicious variety of coffees, teas, and pastries. In this unfortunate era of frequent high street closures, Novel is a welcome addition to the world of independent bookshops. Shop locally and support independent businesses because they are a treasure here in Sheffield.
