Theatre lovers, this one's for you! The National Youth Theatre (NYT) has announced their biggest ever round of free auditions for aspiring young creatives, taking place in 14 cities across the UK including here in Sheffield.
The NYT offer courses across the UK for young people who are interested in becoming members of the National Youth Theatre. Admission to these courses is through audition only.
There are three audition routes available, you can audition through only one route per year.
Previous members of the National Youth Theatre include local Eddie-Joe Robinson, who recently starred in Chariots of Fire at the Crucible. Before this, Eddie-Joe played in a National Youth Theatre production of Jekyll and Hyde.
Auditions will be held on Saturday 1st March, and are open to individuals aged 14-25, as well as disabled and neurodivergent young people up to the age of 30. The auditions offer a relaxed environment, allowing participants to experience the NYT community and explore which courses might be the best fit for them. Auditionees will also have the opportunity to ask questions and connect with arts professionals from the region.
For those unable to attend in person, online video auditions are available. To apply this way, auditionees should record a video of themselves performing a monologue and responding to a series of questions provided on the NYT website.
Additionally, 50 schools nationwide will be hosting their own auditions.
This year, for the first time, the Audition Choice Award will be introduced, where two young people from each city will be selected to receive a free NYT course and free accommodation for any course offering lodging.
Two recipients will also be chosen from online auditions, and a school with standout talent will be recognized.
This is an exciting opportunity for aspiring young creatives and all auditions are completely free of charge. Find out more and audition here.
