Yasmin Harper was among the first eight divers announced to represent Team GB at the Paris Olympics this summer. The Sheffield Diver has been selected to take part in the Women’s 3m Synchro alongside her partner Scarlett Mew Jensen.
This time last year, we remember being there at Ponds Forge in Sheffield when the pair had just won British Championship gold. Their fantastic performance made it hard for us to believe that they were a fairly new synchro duo.
Just a couple of months after, the World Aquatic Championships were taking place in Fukuoka, Japan and having seem them shine on the national stage, we had no doubt that they would be able achieve amazing things on an international level. It was an excellent competition for the duo, who at the end of the five rounds became only the second Team GB women ever to medal at the World Aquatics Championships, achieving silver.
The silver medal also represented Harper and Mew Jensen securing an Olympic quota spot for Team GB in the Women’s 3m synchro event, which Aquatics GB have now confirmed they will be competing in.
This announcement is the first phase of selection for the diving team that Team GB will take to Paris, with Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding taking part in the Men’s 3m Synchro event. Tom Daley and Noah Williams, as well as Lois Toulson and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix are the diving duos selected for the 10m Synchro events. The full team will be announced after the Speedo Aquatics GB Diving Championships towards the end of this month.
Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen’s spot at the Olympics is testament to their hard work and dedication, especially with the challenges that come with Harper being a member of Sheffield Diving Club and Mew Jensen diving for Dive London. The two friends have had to travel up and down the country in order to train their synchro event with one another and will be hoping that this commitment to their preparation pays off when the competition begins.
Sheffield’s own Yasmin Harper will take to the Olympic stage for the first time with Scarlett Mew Jensen in the first diving event of the games on Saturday 27th July. We are so excited to see what the pair will be able to achieve and look forward to supporting their Paris 2024 journey.
