Tal’s Talent Show: A Night of Live Music at The Leadmill to raise money for Whirlow Farm Trust

On Wednesday 16 November, Tal Taylor, a local Sheffield man with a brain injury and a passion for helping others, is teaming up with The Leadmill for an evening of Sheffield’s finest talent to raise money for Whirlow Farm Trust.

Tal, alongside fellow host Sean Colley, have been running events with Javier Barrios to fundraise for the Trust, most recently at Dorothy Pax. Whirlow Farm Trust offers a safe place for youngsters who are excluded, or at risk of exclusion, from mainstream education. Whether they are living with; cancer; mental health difficulties; autism; ADHD; overcoming neglect; coping with bereavement; or dealing with any other kind of personal struggle, the Trust uses outdoor learning in the countryside to inspire, nurture and expand the horizons of young people from the Sheffield region and beyond.

Tal Taylor has faced plenty of personal struggles of his own after suffering from a traumatic brain injury when he was just five years old, undergoing several misdiagnoses in adulthood and multiple operations until his condition gradually worsened and there was nothing more doctors could do. This left him wheelchair bound and on a cocktail of painkillers. However, Tal, determined to defy his prognosis, continued to push himself. He began using leg braces so he could walk again and went as far as carrying 11 stone of weight on his back in a rucksack which he says massively reduced his seizures. In 2018, Tal commissioned a documentary capturing his climb up Win Hill in Derbyshire – over 1,500 feet above sea level, and successfully applied to donate his brain to the University of Sheffield. He has gone on to perform stand-up comedy and host shows across the city.

Now, Tal and co-host Sean Colley are bringing a night of musical talent to The Leadmill, showcasing and celebrating some of the best talent who have attended their previous talent nights:

  • Spit N Strings

  • Boon & Ashley Martindale

  • Charlotte Branson

  • Sarinity Jones

  • Emma Saville

  • Javier Barrios & Jemma Rosenthal

  • Udagan

  • Matt Hatters Light Show

The evening will also feature a raffle, merch sale and plenty of entertainment between the main acts. Tickets are £5 in advance and £8 on the door.
